Liberty Mutual Brings Auto Insurance Quotes to ChatGPT With Conversational AI App

Liberty Mutual has introduced what it describes as a first-of-its-kind carrier-backed conversational AI app for auto insurance quoting, allowing ChatGPT users to receive a personalized quote within minutes through a chat-driven experience rather than a conventional online form. The launch reflects a broader shift in how consumers shop for coverage, with conversational interfaces becoming part of the insurance buying journey.

The new quoting option is currently available to drivers in Arizona, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico, Utah, and Wisconsin. Liberty Mutual, recognized as the seventh-largest auto insurer in the United States, said it expects to expand the service to more than 40 states before the end of the year.

How the Chat-Based Quoting Process Works

Users who connect to the Liberty Mutual app within ChatGPT can begin the process by answering a brief set of questions. After the quote is generated, they are then directed to LibertyMutual.com to complete their coverage selections and bind the policy.

According to the company, this experience differs from some aggregator-based tools that present estimated pricing and then send shoppers to third-party websites. Instead, Liberty Mutual said its app relies on the company’s own rating engine to produce an accurate and personalized quote based on the information provided by the user.

Why Liberty Mutual Is Expanding Into Conversational AI

Tyler Asher, Chief Distribution and Marketing Officer for US Retail Markets at Liberty Mutual, said the company wants to give customers more ways to access its products and compare coverage options. He emphasized that shoppers now expect flexibility in how they research and purchase insurance, including through emerging channels such as conversational AI and large language model platforms.

Asher added that as the shopping experience continues to change, meeting customers on the platforms they already use can help simplify the buying process. He said newer technology makes it possible to deliver coverage options more quickly, more intuitively, and with a greater level of personalization.
