Aon, the global re/insurance broker and risk advisor, has appointed José María Navas as Chief Claims Officer for EMEA, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening claims support for clients across the region. In this position, he will guide the company’s claims organisation throughout EMEA, shaping strategy, advocacy, and claims preparation services as businesses face an increasingly demanding claims landscape.
His appointment also supports Aon’s broader effort to expand regional capabilities, including the use of Aon Claims Copilot, the firm’s enhanced global claims platform. By bringing together claims data, analytics, and digital claims management tools, the platform is designed to help teams deliver more consistent and insight-driven outcomes for clients at every stage of the claims process.
Navas will report to Luca Tassarotti, Head of Commercial Risk for EMEA. He brings nearly 25 years of experience within Aon, most recently serving as Chief Claims Officer in Spain, where he led a team of 120 professionals responsible for delivering claims-related services to policyholders.
Earlier in his career, he headed Aon’s Construction & Infrastructures practice in Spain and also held the role of Executive Director at Aon Consulting Services, S.A.U. (Asevasa). His experience has been shaped by leadership roles focused on complex claims management, operational delivery, and insurer relationships.
During his time in Spain, Navas helped strengthen claims servicing capabilities designed to support clients dealing with large and complex losses. He also played an important role in improving operational efficiency while deepening collaboration with insurers.
Luca Tassarotti said the appointment reflects Aon’s continued investment in delivering strong claims outcomes for clients throughout EMEA. He noted that Navas’ leadership and experience will help enhance the way the firm supports clients across the risk transfer lifecycle, enabling them to manage complexity with greater confidence.
Mona Barnes, Global Chief Claims Officer for Aon, said claims remain central to the value Aon provides to clients. She added that the appointment highlights the depth of Aon’s internal talent and its focus on differentiating its offering through advanced claims capabilities across Risk Capital, from placement to final resolution.
Navas said he is honoured to take on the new position and looks forward to working closely with teams across the region to further improve the claims experience for clients. He emphasized that delivering strong outcomes at critical moments remains at the heart of the value Aon provides.
