Zurich Broadens Data Centre Project Guard Across Key Global Construction Markets

Zurich Insurance Group is widening access to its Data Centre Project Guard solution, responding to increasing international demand for unified insurance protection on major data centre construction developments. After gaining strong traction in the United States, the insurer is now extending the offering into Brazil, Germany, Italy, the Nordics, and Spain, while additional market launches are expected during 2026.

The expansion reflects the fast-rising scale of the data centre sector, with global infrastructure investment projected to surpass $7 trillion by 2030. As developers accelerate projects across different countries and regulatory systems, the need for coordinated risk protection has become more critical.

How the solution supports complex builds

Data Centre Project Guard combines contractors’ all-risk insurance with optional protections such as third-party liability, delay-in-startup and advanced loss of profits coverage, along with transitional operational insurance. This structure is designed to address the wide range of risks linked to building and launching large-scale data centre facilities.

The coverage framework is also tailored to comply with local legal and regulatory requirements, while still maintaining a consistent approach across multiple jurisdictions. This allows project stakeholders to manage exposure more effectively when operating across borders.

Growing demand driven by AI and computing needs

According to Kelly Kinzer, Global Head of Construction & Surety at Zurich, the surge in data centre construction is being fueled by the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and the increasing demand for computing power. She emphasized that these projects involve significant technical complexity and require specialized underwriting and risk expertise.

Zurich positions the offering as an end-to-end protection solution, supported by its underwriting strength, risk engineering capabilities, and long-standing technical experience in construction-related risks.

Risk engineering integrated into the construction lifecycle

As part of the broader offering, Zurich Resilience Solutions delivers specialized advisory and risk engineering services throughout the full construction process. Support begins at the planning stage and continues through project completion, helping customers improve resilience, identify vulnerabilities early, and limit potential disruption before problems emerge.
