The Association of Insurance Agents (SAB) has warned insurance agents about contract termination notices based solely on claims-to-premium ratios or production targets. According to the association, these criteria alone do not amount to lawful justification for ending an agency relationship under the Turkish Commercial Code.
Stressing that insurance agents operate as independent traders, SAB stated that weak sales performance or an unfavorable loss ratio cannot automatically be used as sufficient legal grounds for termination. The association has therefore called on agents to act quickly to avoid losing their legal rights.
Free Legal Support for Agents
To help those facing disputed terminations, SAB has introduced the Agent Support Hotline for Unjustified Terminations. Through this support channel, agents can identify the scenario relevant to their case, access application and objection forms, review the required documents, and receive free legal guidance.
SAB also underlined that legal deadlines are critical, especially in termination-related disputes. Agents are advised not to delay taking formal steps if they wish to preserve their rights and challenge unfair actions effectively.
Reinforcing its message with the warning “Time is of the essence; do not remain silent.”, the association noted that agents can use the support mechanism and obtain the appropriate documents through www.sab.org.tr.
