TSEV Expands IFRS 17 Training as Certified Staffing Rules Reshape Insurance Sector

The Turkish Insurance Institute Foundation (TSEV) is continuing its widely attended IFRS 17 training initiative with new participant groups, reflecting the insurance sector’s growing need for specialised knowledge in financial reporting. Interest in the programme has accelerated after the latest regulatory step requiring insurers to employ personnel certified in IFRS 17.

Under Circular No. 2026/2, issued by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Authority (SEDDK) on 22 January 2026, insurance companies are now expected to strengthen their internal expertise with certified professionals. Following this development, the first two groups of TSEV’s “IFRS 17 Training Programme: A Comprehensive Overview” have already been completed, while the third and fourth groups scheduled for July reached full capacity in a short time.

Why IFRS 17 Matters for Insurers

IFRS 17 is reshaping the financial reporting structure of insurance companies by requiring insurance liabilities to be measured in a more realistic and internationally comparable way. This standard supports greater transparency, stronger comparability, and more reliable financial statements, helping the sector align with modern global reporting expectations.

Why IFRS 17 Matters for Insurers

The broader goal of the regulation is to improve the technical capabilities of insurers during the transition process, reinforce the knowledge base of finance and technical teams, and ensure that these competencies are formally documented through certification.

A Programme Designed Beyond Exam Preparation

Supported by SEDDK, TSEV has structured the training not only as preparation for a certification exam but also as a development-focused programme tailored to the real needs of insurance companies. Participants are introduced to practical reporting approaches, sector-specific case studies, and applied examples that can support actual IFRS transition projects.

This design allows attendees to move beyond theory and build the skills needed to interpret reporting outcomes, assess financial implications, and contribute more effectively to institutional transformation efforts.

66 Hours of Intensive, Applied Learning

The programme spans 15 days and 66 hours, offering an intensive learning path for professionals who aim to deepen their expertise in IFRS 17. Its core objective is to help participants become capable of analysing financial results under the standard and producing reports that deliver meaningful business value.

The course content was prepared with contributions from experts affiliated with KPMG, Deloitte, AXA Turkey, AgeSA, and TSEV. By combining technical instruction with practical implementation, the training supports the development of advanced analytical, measurement, and reporting capabilities.

Hybrid Delivery and a New Online-Only Cohort

Classes are delivered from TEV’s training centre in Nişantaşı through a hybrid model, allowing participants to join either in person or via Zoom. This flexible format has helped the programme reach a broader professional audience across the sector.

Because of strong participation from outside Istanbul, TSEV is also preparing a separate group for September that will be conducted entirely online. This step is expected to make the programme even more accessible to professionals seeking IFRS 17 certification and applied knowledge from different regions.
