At a meeting organised in Diyarbakır on 11 June, hosted by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, information was provided on agricultural insurance and participants’ questions were answered.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Director of the Department of Agricultural Insurance and Natural Disasters at the General Directorate of Agricultural Reform, Kamil ÖZDEMİR, Deputy General Manager of the Agricultural Insurance Pool Operations, Tufan ÖZEL, and the accompanying TARSİM delegation, along with officials from the Diyarbakır Provincial and District Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry, Agricultural Chambers and Unions, attended the meeting.
The meeting was opened by Adil ALAN, Director of the Diyarbakır Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, whilst Department Head Kamil ÖZDEMİR noted that Diyarbakır, with its extensive arable land, is one of Turkey’s most important centres for agriculture and livestock farming, emphasising that it holds significant potential in terms of agricultural insurance.
Later in the programme, Deputy General Manager Tufan ÖZEL took the floor, providing information on agricultural insurance data for Turkey as a whole and for the province of Diyarbakır in particular, and answered participants’ questions.
During the meeting, it was emphasised that agricultural insurance serves as an indispensable safeguard against the adverse effects of climate change—which has grown in impact in recent years—on agricultural activities; at the same time, there was a mutual exchange of views on potential initiatives and collaborations aimed at enabling producers to make more effective use of the opportunities offered by TARSİM.
