Abdulcelil Alkış on Balancing Growth, Portfolio Protection and Discipline in Insurance

Abdulcelil Alkış, Founding Chairman of TÜGAP, stated that sustainable success in the insurance sector depends not only on generating new business and growth, but also on protecting the existing portfolio and maintaining operational discipline.

Using examples from World Cup matches, he said that constant attacking or possession alone does not bring success in football, and that teams achieve stronger results when they stay disciplined and loyal to their strategy.

He said the same principle applies to insurance, where acquiring new customers should be balanced with safeguarding existing customers, managing collections, tracking renewals and preserving operational order.

Alkış emphasized that the sector can sometimes focus only on growth, while lasting results come from maintaining a balance between expansion and preserving current value.

On team management, he noted that excessive pressure can reduce employee productivity, and that people who fear making mistakes may struggle to show their full potential. He underlined the importance of balancing discipline with motivation for team development.

He also described insurance agency work as a long-term profession in which success requires continuous monitoring, control, discipline and the right strategy.

Addressing sector representatives, Alkış said that while pursuing new business opportunities, organizations should also examine how well they are preserving the value they already have, adding that success may come from managing existing assets effectively rather than taking greater risks.

He concluded by wishing all industry representatives a profitable, productive and successful week.
