A new scheme has been introduced for owners of foreign-registered vehicles visiting Turkey for summer holidays or business trips. Under this scheme, comprehensive motor insurance can be taken out in Turkey for foreign-registered vehicles.
Abdulcelil Alkış, founder of Gurbet Kasko, noted that the more than one million vehicles with foreign number plates entering Turkey each year had, until now, been covered primarily by compulsory motor insurance, and stated that comprehensive insurance solutions are now being offered under the new scheme.
Alkış noted that, in addition to compulsory motor insurance for vehicles with foreign number plates, comprehensive insurance and roadside assistance services are also available.
The services offered under the new scheme include comprehensive motor insurance, Voluntary Third-Party Liability (VTL) cover of up to 25 million TL, roadside assistance and towing services, and personal accident insurance. Policies can be taken out for periods of 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. There is no age limit on vehicles under this scheme.
Abdulcelil Alkış pointed out that, in some cases, it may not be sufficient for owners of vehicles with foreign number plates to rely solely on compulsory motor insurance or the Green Card scheme. Alkış stated that, in the event of high-value claims where the limits of compulsory motor insurance are exceeded, the vehicle owner may face additional financial liabilities.
Under this scheme, insurance procedures can be carried out online before entering Turkey. It has been reported that policy issuance and payment procedures can be completed digitally, and that a 24/7 support service is available.
