TARSİM Showcases Türkiye’s Agricultural Insurance Expertise at Beijing FRA CoP Forum

TARSİM joined the 3rd Global Forum of the Financial Resilience in Agriculture Community of Practice in Beijing, China, held under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and presented Türkiye’s experience in agricultural insurance to a broad international audience. The gathering brought together public and private sector representatives to discuss how agriculture can become more resilient against climate-related threats, natural disasters, and economic volatility.

Held from 9 to 11 June in the Chinese capital, the forum was organised through the collaboration of the UNDP Insurance and Risk Finance Facility, China Agricultural University, and the World Agriculture and Food Innovation Conference. Participants from nearly 30 countries, including officials from ministries, central banks, insurers, civil society organisations, and international institutions, examined strategies designed to reinforce financial resilience across agricultural systems.

Türkiye’s Representation and Contribution

Türkiye was represented by Bekir Engürülü, Member of the Board of TARSİM and General Manager of the Agricultural Insurance Pool, together with Güray Balaban, Coordinator of Rural Development Projects at the UNDP Türkiye Office. Their participation highlighted the country’s active role in international discussions on agricultural risk management and insurance-based protection mechanisms.

At this third edition of the forum, following earlier meetings in India in 2024 and Ethiopia the previous year, the agenda centred on the role of agricultural insurance in managing climate risks, innovative financing solutions, and practices that support sustainable agricultural development. TARSİM contributed to the exchange by sharing Türkiye’s know-how, institutional experience, and effective practices with global stakeholders.

Focus on Cooperation and Financial Resilience

Discussions throughout the forum also explored opportunities for stronger international cooperation in agriculture, particularly in the fields of risk management and financial protection. These exchanges underscored the growing importance of coordinated approaches to safeguarding farmers and agricultural economies against increasingly complex risks.

TARSİM’s presence at the event strengthened the international visibility of Türkiye’s agricultural insurance model while also supporting wider global efforts to build a more resilient future for the agricultural sector. The forum served as an important platform for knowledge-sharing, policy dialogue, and collaboration among institutions working to enhance resilience in agriculture worldwide.
