Built on archival materials, official documents and historical period data, the study offers a carefully researched perspective on how the insurance sector developed internationally, how it took shape in Turkey, and how Anadolu Sigorta contributed to that transformation.
Prepared as the company steps into its second century, the work places Anadolu Sigorta’s history within a broader economic, social and institutional framework. Rather than limiting itself to a corporate chronology, it follows the story of insurance from its global roots to Ottoman-era practices, then through the formative years of the Turkish Republic and into the modern insurance landscape. In this way, the publication connects company history with the wider structural development of the sector.
Academic Scope and Research Foundation
The study was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ö. Alkan and written by Prof. Dr. Murat Birdal together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Kablamacı. With its interdisciplinary approach, the book evaluates Anadolu Sigorta’s corporate history alongside the institutionalisation of insurance in Turkey, aiming to provide an enduring academic resource for scholars, students and professionals interested in insurance history, economic history and corporate transformation.

One of the most striking outcomes of the archival research behind the book was the discovery of a historically important founding document preserved in the Turkish Presidency State Archives. The document was found to carry the signature of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
This finding reinforces Anadolu Sigorta’s place among the pioneering institutions established in line with the Republic’s vision of economic independence. Beyond its symbolic value, the document adds powerful historical evidence to the company’s origins and deepens the importance of the publication as both an academic and archival milestone.
